Birding moments today

I think Mary and Bill would be proud. I heard a sort-of bleeting bird call behind me as I rode my bike in the Gilroy area today. I thought, "Man, that sounds like a red-winged blackbird." Turned and looked and there he was on the fence.

Not too much later, I saw a flash of dusky red through the trees above an open field and I thought. "Was that a hawk? Couldn't be. Too big." But sure enough, this ENORMOUS hawk came shooting by after a pigeon(?) It seemed like a giant to me, but I couldn't really judge very well.

Birding. It's in the blood.
