Pasta salad
Recipe request for a pasta salad. I tend to throw together dishes based on what's in the 'fridge:

But, here's a couple of things similar to what I might make:

http://www.tastebook.com/recipes/1683873-Pasta-Salad-with-spinach-basil-feta-and-kalamata
But what would really get me is a pasta salad with:
1) bowtie or orecchiette pasta (freshly cooked and still hot)
2) fried in pan with italian salad dressing until it begins to brown and crisp
3) turn off the stovetop and add some minced fresh garlic, stir while garlic comes alive
4) toss with:
- fresh cherry tomatoes (not a fan of sun dried)
- finely cut (even minced) kalamata olives
- fresh basil
- feta cheese
- toasted pine nuts
4) add chunks of:
- Italian sausage
or serve side of sausage on toothpicks to accommodate veggie friends
ummm... recipe format, based on the chow.com recipe:
• 2 pounds ripe heirloom tomatoes
• 1/2 cup olives
• 1/2 cup fresh basil, thinly sliced
• 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
• 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
• 1 pound pasta
• 1/4 cup pine nuts
• 1 package of italian sausage, cut into bite-sized pieces
• 1/4 cup italian dressing
• 2 garlic cloves, minced
• 1 cup crumbled feta
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Cut tomatoes, olives into small dice. Shred and fine chop basil
2. Combine tomatoes, olives, basil and any accumulated juices with salt, and pepper in a large nonreactive bowl, stir gently to coat well, and let sit at room temperature
3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta according to the package directions. (If the tomatoes have not let off a lot of juice, reserve 1/4 cup of the pasta cooking water before draining.)
4. Heat saute pan, toast pine nuts at medium heat: toss until evenly, lightly brown: set aside to cool
5. Fry sausage until brown, set aside to be skewered or added to pasta
6. Turn up heat on pan to high: when very hot, add cooked pasta and italian dressing, toss and fry until pasta begins to crisp
6. Turn off heat, add minced garlic, toss quickly until garlic smells amazing (happens fast, don't want to burn garlic)
3. Toss pasta with tomato mixture, adding pasta cooking water as needed. Fold in feta, toss with sausage (optional) top with pine nuts and serve.
Hope that helps!
